Bringing Credibility to BIMI recently was invited to speak as a part of a “Putting BIM into Practice” panel in Florida, which was hosted by Building Design and Construction Magazine. In speaking to some of the guests in attendance, many of them were interested in my background and wanted to know how much experience I had in the industry. Looking back, I realized these guests were trying to get a good feel for my credibility, since I was going to be sharing my knowledge of BIM with them. Nov

BIM 1.0, BIM 2.0, BIM 3.0 RevisitedI have been selected to give a talk at the 2010 AIA Convention in Miami. This talk will be a revised version of a 2009 presentation: BIM 1.0, BIM 2.0, BIM 3.0. The 2009 presentation was generic in nature: 1. BIM programs that are available and 2. Industry process changes that will happen. For 2010 I would like to talk about what is actually happening with using BIM for Visualization, Drawings, Analysis and Simulation, however, I need your help in determining the most pertinent information for the AIA audience. How SMART is BIM?There seems to be so many different definitions for BIM. It is really hard to say which one is correct, but I personally like this one. Building Information Modeling is a process of generating and managing a building’s information through three-dimensional design. It is a digital representation of physical and functional characteristics of a facility. Share Your BIM ProjectsOn September 23, 2009, Reed Construction Data presented a Webcast titled: Lessons in BIM Adoption. After the panel presentations, viewers were given the opportunity of asking questions. Several of the questions from the audience concerned my statement during the presentation, “architects and engineers need to share their BIM projects”. Sep

BIM Tool Provides a New ViewAs the BIM Development Coordinator at TME Inc., one of my responsibilities is to develop marketing imagery from our company’s BIM models. Since visualization is such a powerful feature of BIM, 3-dimensional imagery can really help a client see what the design intent of a building space will be. Sep

The Creation of a WindowWe are often asked about the process for the creation of a SmartBIM Object. This article will take you through a detailed history of one window. The creation of a good SmartBIM Object is both a science and an art; there is not one fixed solution. To get the best results the process also involves considering both the needs of the manufacturer and the needs of the architect. Sep

DETAIL Project of the Month — August 2009Nordheide, a new district north of Munich’s historic centre, is home to some 5,000 inhabitants. The Dominikuszentrum, the district’s new spiritual centre, contains a chapel, rectory, pre-school and Care Centre. The building also serves as a landmark, aiding orientation at the urban scale: from the rapid-transit exit a few hundred metres away, a path leading to it can be seen cutting diagonally through the new neighbourhood. |
