Abstract:
Cities rise and fall. Currently in Canada, Calgary and Edmonton are bursting with commerce and energy as a result of the construction boom in the nearby Tar Sands. However, events can pass a city by more easily than might seem possible. The story of Venice presents a cautionary tale.

Interesting article, Alex. I think the tar sands in Alberta seem to be the “last hurrah” for oil in North America so, yes, might as well let the good times roll for the next generation and enjoy it while it lasts because it is certainly inevitable that we won’t be pumping gas in our cars very soon (10-25 years).
