Today, I am starting to write a blog. This is a little scary and a whole lot thrilling. I have several objectives in mind in what I plan to do, especially in terms of my approach.

As an economist, I will be responding to the latest economic statistical releases. Therefore, much of what I write will be serious. BUT, I will also try, on occasion, to be funny (hopefully). Of course, the economic material will come with a construction slant.

There are some other topic areas I would like to cover as well. For example, every once in a while I’ll do a “Phrase of the Day”. For example, what the heck is a “monoline” and what purpose does it serve? Also, have you been hearing about green collar jobs? I’ll discuss these in the next couple of days.

There may be days when I’ll do only “Snippets”. These will be little pieces of factual information. In any event, I would like the reader to be able to glean one or two pieces of solid and interesting information on each read.

I’d like to keep my entries short, only a paragraph or two for the most part. I’ll also try to make at least one entry every working day.

Wish me (and you) good luck.

Alex Carrick

Great start, Alex!  I look forward to hearing your bits of wisdom on this blog.  Maybe you and Jim Haughey will even treat us to a feisty debate or two?

Best of luck—I’ll be reading!
