Can you get sued in Massachusetts over stealing a residential construction lead?

Can you get sued in Massachusetts over stealing a residential construction lead? I worked for a company that ran leads every day but their price was too high. An old customer from a few months ago said he could only do the project for a fixed amount, which was lower than what the company would accept so I wrote up a contract separately for the sub-contractors that usually do our work to get him that low price.
Before the job ever started, he figured out something to be not right, finding their name in the small print at the back of the contract. He said that I owe him a full-refund of the downpayment, even knowing we have already been shopping and put time & effort into this job. We were going to start the day he demanded the refund and now says I can get sued for SCAM contract if I dont give it to him. Any ideas here? It seems very awkward to me.

Considering most of the trouble stems from the contract in question, this sounds like you need legal advice and should consult your lawyer. Or, if you go to this FAQ page on the Massachusetts government web site, you will find a section on mediation for contractor disputes. To see if you qualify for mediation, you can call the Attorney General’s Consumer Complaint and Information Section at (617) 727-8400.
