BIM: It’s not just for Architects

Many contractors are wary of becoming involved in the BIM concept. However, it can benefit more than it can hurt.

BIM Reduces Change Orders

As a busy general contractor you must hate running behind because a change order has to be placed to the Architect. By being involved in projects where BIM is used these change orders will be reduced, allowing your company to move to the next job faster and make more money.

BIM is 3D, but what about paper drawings?

BIM Software still provides the option of printing a hardcopy of the designs. It also allows the creation of quantity takeoffs and detail estimates that can be printed.

BIM Requires Software and Training

The main software for BIM designing today is AutoDesk®Revit®. It is a new program, but if you have one employee train on it now, by the time BIM becomes industry standard your firm will be much more prepares to use the program and concept for your projects.

BIM is just emerging in North America and already it has become a large part of the industry in the west. It won’t be long before BIM becomes industry standard. So jump on board now to prevent the hassles of being forced to adjust to it.
