BIM or BER

Join the Discussion!

It is worthy of discussion, this acronym of distinction and evolution
That has grabbed the imagination and commenced a design revolution.
Architects, engineers, contractors, and owners have all seen the light
As this new design tool provides information to get designs just right.

BIM, Building Information Models, is the adopted acronym of choice
And it is worthy of discussion in order to provide all stakeholders a voice
BIM, it rhymes with HIM, in an industry that is historically male
But women are designing or supervising buildings, even driving a nail.

So, in recognition of HER, I offer up BER, Building Element Resources
To challenge this subtle discriminating snub and initiate appropriate discourses
Acknowledging how the industry has changed in more ways than one
Enhanced collaboration and productivity with BER is the way to "getter done"!

A building evolution revolution (BER) that has shown itself a worthy tool
And building product manufacturers are creating BER Objects; very cool
In acknowledgement of HER, let's drop this subtle reference to HIM,
With a concerted effort, the industry should move to BER from BIM.

So take up the challenge; reply to this blog and let's hear your voice
BIM or BER, what is your 3D design acronym of choice!

Great idea, but rather than lean toward either gender I propose a combination of the two. Building Element Resources Information Modeling (BERIM). It has a ring to it and it’s safe from gender association.
