South Carolina Municipalities

• South Carolina requires that every local jurisdiction adopt a code and mandates which code the local government must adopt, making the codes listed below mandatory throughout the state. Local jurisdictions may amend the codes to make them more stringent with the approval of the Building Codes Council.
• Enforcement and interpretation of each of the codes (building, mechanical, electrical, etc.) is the responsibility of the local governments.
