An intensive one-day RSMeans Seminar in Raleigh, NC

Objective and Approach:
The Means CostWorks CD-ROM contains cost information from 18 digital construction cost data books. The CostWorks database allows you to select and customize cost information data quickly, resulting in accurate estimates with a minimal investment of time. CostWorks allows cost data to be directly exported to Windows applications for calculation and preparation of estimates. This one-day program teaches attendees how to use the Means CostWorks CD-ROM software as a tool for organizing and simplifying construction cost estimating. It is designed to assist both new and experienced users in becoming more proficient and productive with this powerful estimating tool.

Who should attend:
All new or experienced users of Means CostWorks software, including architects, engineers, contractors, and facility managers, and others who assemble cost estimates.

Course Outline:
Part I of the seminar focuses on becoming familiar with the basic functionality of CostWorks. Attendees will learn how to use the setting screen, data screens, and CostList. Part II allows you to put to use what you have learned through practical exercises. Topics covered include:

  • How to get started using CostWorks, including typical work session and file management
  • Using the setting screen to establish the parameters of the project, including project name, location, and wage rates
  • Using the data screens, including the title bar, menu bar, icon bar, and navigation techniques
  • Using the CostList as a queue to assemble and organize all of your selected line items
  • Localizing costs to your geographic area for greater accuracy and more comprehensive bids
  • Time-saving techniques such as bookmarking common estimate items and using keyword searches
  • Exporting cost information to Windows applications, including spreadsheet, worksheet, and text files
  • Using the newest features of CostWorks, including Means CostWorks Estimator, which helps create customized reports that allow you to quickly adjust or add your own costs and create customize templates
