Halfen HIT Insulated Balcony Connection

SmartBuilding Index Featured Product Overview
CSI Classification:
Reinforcing Steel (03 21 00)

Product Description

Halfen HIT is a system of steel reinforcement and insulating polystyrene, designed by Halfen Anchoring Systems to minimize thermal bridging at concrete balconies and fin walls.

Product Description, Application

Concrete slab and structure walls that extend through a building facade create a thermal connection between the exterior and the conditioned interior of the building. This “thermal bridging” is a concern for balcony systems, where the interior and exterior connection can compromise energy efficiency and create the potential for surface condensation and mold growth.

Using a system of steel reinforcement and thick polystyrene insulation, Halfen HIT provides thermal separation at the interface between the floor slab and concrete balcony. All of the reinforcing components that run across the insulation are made of stainless steel. The use of stainless steel precludes any corrosion of the structural components, and aids in drastically reducing the thermal conductivity of HIT elements.

Configured for varying concrete thicknesses and loading conditions, the HIT system can minimize thermal bridging for new construction applications, including cantilever balconies, propped balconies, privacy fin walls, corbels, parapets, canopies and walkways.

Features, Advantages

  • Minimizes thermal bridging
  • Reduces heat loss
  • Reduces risk of interior mold
  • Reduces risk of condensation
  • Increases energy efficiency
  • Reduces lifetime maintenance costs
  • Reduces risk of concrete cracking by thermal movement
  • Easy to install
