Product Description
Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM®) is a chemical admixture manufactured by Kryton International Inc. to protect and waterproof concrete. Used in place of externally applied surface membranes, KIM protects against moisture transmission, chemical attack and corrosion of reinforcing steel.
Product Description
KRYSTOL® INTERNAL MEMBRANE™
Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM®) is a chemical admixture, manufactured by Kryton International Inc to protect and waterproof concrete. Used in place of externally applied surface membranes, KIM protects against moisture transmission, chemical attack and corrosion of reinforcing steel. When combined with water and concrete, KIM triggers a crystallization process that fills pores and voids within the concrete and permanently blocks the pathways of water and waterborne contaminants. If cracks form, water reactivates the crystallization process, providing continual, “self-sealing” crack protection. Additionally, KIM intensifies and prolongs hydration, reducing capillary pores within the concrete matrix to improve strength and durability.
Applications
Use KIM admixture for concrete applications subject to water pressure, including underground parking structures, potable water and wastewater containment, tunnels, reservoirs, pools, basements and foundations.
Composition, Materials
Krystol Internal Membrane is a dry powder, consisting of special proprietary chemicals in a carrier of cement and sand that promote the growth of insoluble hydration crystals within the concrete. It contains no chlorides or any other materials harmful to concrete or steel.
Features, Advantages
- Becomes a permanent part of the concrete, impervious to physical damage or deterioration.
- Reactivates in the presence of moisture, sealing cracks even years after installation.
- Helps prevent freeze/thaw damage and corrosion of reinforcing steel.
- Effective against hydrostatic pressure to up to 140 m (460 ft).
- Eliminates labour and material costs associated with membrane systems.
- Provides excellent resistance to waterborne chemicals and is safe for potable water.
- Reduces shrinkage and cracking and can contribute to increased compressive strength.
- Easy to use - Adds directly to the ready mix truck or to green concrete.
Properties, Performance
- Approved for waterproofing concrete drinking water containment by NSF International, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), US Department of Agriculture, Health and Welfare Canada and the Bureau de Normalisation du Québec.
- Certified by the International Code Council - Evaluation Service (ICC-ES).
- Approved by the Washington State Department of Transportation, USA (WSDOT).
- Certified by the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LARR).
- Certified by the British Board of Agrément (BBA) and European Community (CE).
