Pre-Curved Components, Complex Surface Framing Kits
Radius Track pre-curved components and complex surface framing kits are available in 20, 18, 16 and 14 gauge
galvanized steel.
Pre-Engineered Domes
A basic dome kit includes the following components:
- A structural steel compression ring serves as the base to which curved ribs are secured to the dome’s top; sized according to dome dimensions and number of ribs in the structure
- Ribs in the quantity, size and gauge needed to meet engineering and structural requirements; can be reinforced with 1/8" (3.2 mm) clinching straps for additional strength; typically spaced 16" - 24" (406 - 610 mm) on center to accommodate exterior dome cladding
- Angle clips to connect the dome ribs to the compression ring and the base
- Base ring or, if applicable, tension ring
- Rib cross-bracing
- Optional segmented plywood sheathing pre-cut into contoured sections to match the dome’s rib structure
Custom Pre-Curved Components
Radius Track preformed steel curving offers installed pricing that is among the lowest available for
structural framing jobs of all sizes, shapes, lengths and gauges.
Radius Track uses a cold forming process to maintain the integrity of the steel. After forming, the steel is then cut to exacting tolerances and curved accurately and consistently to client specifications. The result is a solid, continuous piece with a smooth, uniform curve.
Radius Track Custom Pre-Curved Components can be delivered directly to the jobsite for optimal convenience and efficiency. Components are available in C-stud/joist, track, furring (hat) channel, channel (CRC) sections and angle sections. Curve options include standard bend, curve leg in, curve leg out or a combination of these types.
Complex Surface Framing Kits
Radius Track can dramatically simplify the process of building a surface with complex curves. Accurately
dimensioned steel framing arcs, splines, ellipses, free-form 3-D ruled surfaces and compound shapes are
generated from architectural drawings and cold formed to client specifications, resulting in an affordable
and time-saving method of producing complex curving profiles.
Pre-Engineered Domes
Radius Track provides complete structural dome framing kits that are easy to install. Components are
lightweight, yet strong and versatile, and are suitable for architecturally diverse applications, including
commercial, residential, religious, municipal and retail structures.
A computer program generates the steel framing shapes from engineering drawings to produce an exact curving profile for each piece. Interior and exterior domes of any size or shape can be framed quickly and economically using this process. Cold-formed infill components can be used with structural steel framing of domes larger than 45' (13.7 m) for quicker onsite installation, faster sheathing attachment and lower labor costs.
Radius Track curved steel components radically simplify the task of erecting complex structural shapes. Because they install quickly and require less labor time, Radius Track domes cost up to 30% less than domes made using other construction methods. Available dome types and shapes include:
- Complete spheres to partial (low) domes
- Horizontal and vertical elliptical domes
- Onion and spline shaped domes
- Square and multifaceted domes
- Domes with extended base drums
- Solid truss frame or open interior construction
