Construction Starts Rebound Strongly in July but Fall Short of 2012

Reed Construction Data announced that July construction starts, excluding residential contracts, jumped 18.3% to $21.4 billion after slipping 1.9% in June. Despite July’s sharp improvement over June, starts were down 6.6% compared to July 2012. The year-to-date starts data, which totaled $131.5 billion, painted an even gloomier picture — down 19.5% from the same period in 2012.
