LEED or GREENGUARD?

Posted by mpath

As a building product manufacturer of flooring products with low VOC emissions and made from recycleable materials, what is our best bet for promoting these "green" qualities? LEED or GREENGUARD? What are the differences between the two and what are the advantages/disadvantages to each?

GreenGuard certifies products. LEED does not. The LEED Green Building Rating System evaluates environmental performance from a whole-building perspective, providing a definitive standard for what constitutes a “green building.” There are also numerous other certifying groups like GreenGuard. These groups either test or certify product attributes as being “green.”

Another organization worthy of investigation for promotion of products and green building practices is the Green Building Initiative (GBI).  Their website is as follows: http://www.thegbi.org
