I cannot find data from a particular book ?

The New Construction Commercial data contains the information found in the BCCD, Assembly, Concrete, Electrical, Heavy, Interior, Mechanical, Plumbing and Site publications of RSMeans. These are all the titles RSMeans offers with Standard Union Wages.

The Facilities/R&R;selection would have the information found in the Facilities, R&R;and Facilities Maintenance & Repair Publications while the Residential is strictly Residential information.

Is there a difference between the trial and full version ?

No, what you see is not different than if you sign up for the annual usage.

I created some estimates using http://www.meanscostworks.com and now I cannot find them. I searched my whole computer and they aren’t there. How can I find my estimates?

All estimates you create using http://www.meanscostworks.com are saved on our secure server, so the only way to access them is to log in to your account and view or edit them from there. You can also export your finished estimate to your own computer by using the Estimate Action dropdown list (on the My Estimate screen) to select the option labeled “Export”. This will export your estimate to your local computer, where it can be opened with Microsoft Excel.

I created a custom line item in my Custom Commercial Cost Data book, but it is wrong and I want to delete it. How can I do this?

Currently a custom item cannot be removed from the custom cost book it has been added to. Instead, you can go to the Customization screen where you first created that line item, then retrieve that item, and then edit it to make it correct and usable.

Do you need to use an exchange rate with Canadian CCI locations?

No. When you use the Canadian CCI locations, the result will be in Canadian dollars.

I am looking for Excavation in Division 2 and I can’t find it. Do I need to buy more data?

You may be looking for Excavation in the wrong division. The RSMeans unit price data is displayed using the CSI MasterFormat system of titles and numbers. The 16 divisions of the MasterFormat 1995 version is now expanded to MasterFormat 2004 and 50 divisions. In the new system Excavation is now found in Division 31 – Earthwork.

If you wish you may continues to use the MF95 version. Choose the ‘My Estimate’ tab, then under ‘Estimate Cost Data Preference’ chose whichever system you like.

The RSMeans mark-ups on material and equipment are too low! Can I change them to be more in line with my actual costs?

Choose the ‘My Company’ tab, and click ‘Customization’. Under the heading ‘Add Custom Cost Books’ pull down the menu and choose the book/data to be customized. Click the ‘Add’ button and your custom book appears under the heading ‘Manage Custom Cost Books’.

By clicking the ‘Edit’ button under ‘Markups’ you can now see the RSMeans ‘Material markup’ and ‘Equipment markup’ which are the Subcontractor’s markups on material and equipment. You may enter your own markups – as percentages – for each, then click the Save box and your Custom Database will now reflect your new markups.

To ensure you do your estimates using your new data be certain on the ‘My Estimate’ page that you choose your Custom Database from the pull down menu under the ‘Estimate Cost Data Preferences’ heading.

Many of our projects require us to pay Davis-Bacon wage rates. Can I use CostWorks Online to estimate these jobs?

Certainly. The labor rates used in CostWorks Online are completely editable using the Customization feature.

By clicking the ‘Edit’ button under Labor Rates you may now modify not only the RSMeans Base Rate Including Fringes but also the RSMeans Total Including Overhead and Profit markup for any or all trades. When you are finished click the ‘Save’ button and your custom database is created using your Davis Bacon labor rates.

To ensure you do your estimates using your new data be certain on the ‘My Estimate’ page that you choose your Custom Database from the pull down menu under the ‘Estimate Cost Data Preferences’ heading.

Customer has forgotten their password.

On the login screen for CostWorks Online, there is a link there labeled “Forgot password?” Click on this link and enter their email address. An email will be generated automatically and sent to the user’s email address, and that email will contain the user’s password.
