Understanding Cost Book types
Cost Books are the books that contain the RSMeans costline information used for building estimates. Cost Books are based on RSMeans Annual Cost Data books and are grouped into Unit Costs and Assembly Costs. Both data-categories are grouped three types of titles:
- Commercial New Construction
- Repair & Remodeling
- Residential New Construction

The Commercial New Construction Unit Cost Book includes the combined “Big 8” RSMeans Unit Cost Book titles from the following list:
- Building Construction Cost Data
- Concrete Masonry Cost Data
- Electrical Cost Data
- Heavy Construction Cost Data
- Interior Cost Data
- Mechanical Cost Data
- Plumbing Cost Data
- Site Work & Landscape Cost Data
The two cost types available are:
- Union Cost (default)
- Open Shop Cost

The Commercial New Construction Assembly Cost Book includes the combined “Big 10” RSMeans Assembly Cost Book titles from the following list:
- Assembly Cost Data
- Concrete Masonry Assembly Cost Data
- Electrical Assembly Cost Data
- Heavy Construction Assembly Cost Data
- Interior Assembly Cost Data
- Light Commercial Assembly Cost Data
- Mechanical Assembly Cost Data
- Plumbing Assembly Cost Data
- Site Work & Landscape Assembly Cost Data
- Square Foot Model Assembly Cost Data
The two cost types available are:

The Repair & Remodeling Unit Cost Book includes the combined “Repair & Remodeling/Facilities” RSMeans Unit Cost Book titles from the list below:
- Repair & Remodeling Cost Data
- Facilities Construction Cost Data

- Open shop cost
