Setting up print and web browser options
SmartProject News is designed to work primarily with Microsoft® Internet Explorer (IE) version 7.0 or newer. You can, however, use other browsers such as Firefox and Safari. Follow the instructions in this section if you are using a browser other than IE version 7.0 or newer.
Tip: To locate the version of Internet Explorer you are using, click Help from the main menu and then click About Internet Explorer. The pop-up menu displays the IE version.
This section contains the following browser-specific information for setting up your system to use
SmartProject News:
Setting up IE 7 security settings
Web sites such as
SmartProject News require a certain level of security to offer a seamless browsing experience. This section contains information for setting up your system with the correct security settings for using
SmartProject News.
To set up IE 7 security settings,

Start the IE browser on your computer. |

From the browser's menu bar, click Tools and then click Internet Options:
Result: The Internet Options menu is displayed:

Click the tab for Security.
Result: The Security menu is displayed:

Click the checkmark for Trusted sites:
Result: The Trusted sites menu is displayed:

Click Sites.

In the Websites: box, type the following line:

Remove the checkmark from the following menu if checked:

Note: If you get an error message that https:// must be used, return to step seven and remove the checkmark. |
Setting up IE 7 to allow cookies
Cookies are pieces of data that allow websites such as
SmartProject News to offer you a more streamlined browsing experience, especially when you are moving between sections of the site, such as a shopping cart or search results. This section provides detailed instructions for setting up your IE 7 browser to accept cookies from
SmartProject News.
To set up your IE 7 browser to allow cookies from
SmartProject News,

Result: The Per Site Privacy Actions menu is displayed:

Setting up IE 7 Java options
The Java (Sun) option allows you to access all the functionality of
SmartProject News. This section describes how to verify your IE 7 Java (Sun) options, and the steps required to set IE 7 with the correct Java (Sun) options if required.
To set up your Java (Sun) options,

From the Internet Options menu, click the Advanced tab. |

Scroll down the menu until you locate the entry for Java(Sun):

Is there a check-mark in the box for Use JRE 1.6.0.07 for <applet>(requires restart) ?
- If yes, then you have the correct setting. Click OK to close the menu.
- If no, then continue to step 4.

- Click the check-box for Use JRE 1.6.0.07 for <applet>(requires restart).
- Click OK to close the Internet Options menu.
- Restart your computer.
Note: You must restart your computer for Java settings to take effect.
Result: Your computer reboots and your IE browser has the correct Java settings.

Setting up IE 7 pop-up blocker options
To use all features of SmartProject News, you must configure the IE 7 pop-up blocker settings.
Note: See Configuring Pop-up Blocker Software for a list of additional pop-up blocker software that you may need to configure on your computer.
To set up your IE 7 pop-up blocker settings,

Result: The Privacy menu is displayed:

Setting up IE 7 print options

To set up your IE 7 print options,

From the top menu bar, click File and then click Page Setup.
Result: The Print Options menu is displayed:

In the Margins (inches) section, change the left and right margin settings to .25, and click OK.
Result: The print options for your computer are now set so that your
SmartProject News materials all print inside the margins of the page. |
Setting up Firefox pop-up blocker options
To use all the features of SmartProject News, you must set up Firefox pop-up blocker settings.
Note: See Configuring Pop-up Blocker Software for a list of additional pop-up blocker software that you may need to configure on your computer.
To set up Firefox pop-up blocker settings,

Setting up Firefox print options

Setting up Safari security options

Setting up Safari print options
This section is for setting up Safari print options for use with
SmartProject News.
To set up Safari print options,

From the menu bar, click File and then click Print.
Result: The Print Setup menu is displayed. |

Click the box for Paper Size and then select Manage Custom Sizes from the drop-down list.
Result: The Custom Page Sizes menu is displayed. |

Below the sample page window, click the plus sign + to add a custom page size.
Result: The menu to edit the page print margins is displayed. |

Verify that the following are set:
- Page Size: 8.5 in width 11in height
- Left margin: .25 in
- Right margin: .25 in

Click Ok to close the menu.
Result: Your print options are set. |

You can click either
- Print to print
SmartProject News materials or
- Cancel to close the Print Setup menu.
