U.S. Trade Deficit Improving Marginally
Abstract:
In 2007, the U.S. trade deficit in goods and services basically found a level − around -$700 billion − and stayed there. The deficit in December, 2008 was -$711 billion. However, this was a significant improvement versus some months in 2005 and 2006 that exceeded -$800 billion. The trade balance is made up of two components, goods (in deficit) and services (in surplus). Where there was significant improvement in the services surplus, mainly due to travel in the U.S. by foreign visitors.
