Reed First Source (ReedFirstSource.com) the leading, internet-based, building product directory for the commercial construction industry, has announced enhanced search and navigation capabilities designed to meet the needs of the “green” or “sustainable” architecture communities.
Products suitable for green construction are identified with a green and white leaf icon, and are visible to Reed First Source visitors during CSI MasterFormat site navigation or keyword search. The site also offers a “green product only” filter option.
These new options will give architects, engineers and designers an easier way to locate green products, and building product manufacturers now have a forum to showcase their companies’ response to the call for sustainable architecture.
“The United States Green Building Council reports almost 8,000 LEED (www.usgbc.org/leed) registered projects through July this year, said Bill Cariello, First Source Publisher. Reed Construction Data’s research shows that almost half of all architecture firms are currently working on LEED projects.”
“The high activity in LEED projects, combined with an even greater number of non-LEED projects that incorporate elements of sustainable architecture, has driven the need for a fast, effective green product search,” added Bob Keaton, First Source Editor.
Keaton and his staff have assembled a list of criteria to apply the green designation, including certification, recycled content and environmental impact. The green icon is only applied to those companies with valued-added content on the site.
“Our editorial mission has always been to empower the design community to locate vendors of the products needed for their projects, and provide content that supports the design process,” said Keaton. “Adding a green search is the logical extension of this capability.”
