Leading economists discuss residential and nonresidential construction activity

On October 15-16, Reed Construction Data will host the 2009 Construction Forecast Webcast Series, a unique online event delivering the most up-to-date information on current construction activity and a clear forecast of the construction industry in 2009 and beyond.

The Webcast series will begin on October 15 from 2-3 pm (EDT) with an in-depth look at the U.S. construction market and the surrounding economic environment. On October 16 from 2-3 pm (EDT), the dialogue continues as speakers analyze the Canadian construction market and cover key market trends affecting the industry.  Both sessions will relate the construction industry to the current economic climate in the United States, Canada and around the world.

“Understanding where the construction industry is going is critical because it plays a significant role in both the U.S. and Canadian economies, generating billions of dollars in revenues each year and employing millions of workers,” said Jim Haughey, chief U.S. economist for Reed Construction Data.  “With both the U.S. and Canadian economies facing a number of pressing short-term and long-term challenges, the state of the construction industry can be a barometer of economic progress and can offer clues as to how long the current conditions will prevail.”

Haughey and Alex Carrick, chief Canadian economist for Reed Construction Data, will lead the discussion of residential and nonresidential construction activity including the institutional, commercial, industrial and heavy engineering sectors. Suzanne Mulvee, Senior Real Estate Economist, Property & Portfolio Research (PPR), will join Haughey to discuss the U.S. market.  Will Dunning, President, Will Dunning Inc., will join Carrick to discuss the Canadian market.
