Objectives

This two-day course teaches attendees the most current and proven scheduling and management techniques needed to bring projects in on time and on budget.

Approach

This seminar takes attendees through crucial phases of planning and scheduling. It shows them how to establish project priorities, develop realistic schedules and apply today's advanced management techniques to construction projects. Participants gain experience with network approaches such as Critical Path and Precedence Methods. The course places special emphasis on cost control, including use of computer-based systems. Numerous case-study exercises provide hands-on, skill-building practice.

  • Scheduling and project management techniques
  • Fundamental principles of activity-oriented networks
  • How to define project activities and develop an activity list
  • CPM use in building construction
  • How to build the project on paper with an activity network — tips for sequencing work
  • Computer-based scheduling and control
  • Project control from start to finish
  • Interrelationship of costs, scheduling and management
  • How to manage the project and tie the estimate, schedule and project resources together — labor, equipment, material delivery and finances
  • How to quantify resources, work out loading and leveling, relate productivity estimates to project duration
  • How to develop payment and cash flow projections
  • How to update and modify the schedule when necessary
  • How to control costs and minimize the “ripple effect” of change orders
