Also known as drywall or plasterboard, gypsum board is a building panel composed of a nonflammable gypsum core sandwiched between paper facings. Gypsum has been used as a building material for centuries and was used as a plaster in the Egyptian pyramids.

Tips on Estimating Gypsum Board Costs from RSMeans
 | Gypsum wallboard is estimated by the square foot. Drywall taping is figured by the square foot. Drywall accessories, studs, track and acoustical caulking are all measured by the linear foot. A rule of thumb when estimating materials for drywall is to not deduct for door or window openings of less than 32 S.F. |
