Sound control doors are used in situations which require that sound be contained within and/or restricted from a specific space.
They are rated as a result of laboratory testing and given a Sound Transmission Class (STC) rating. STC ratings of 45 or more for wood doors and STC ratings of 50 or more for metal doors are generally required for a door to be classified as capable of controlling sound.
