Fire pumps are used to supplement the water supply to a fire protection system. They pump water from public mains, gravity tanks, pressure tanks or reservoirs to a buildings` sprinkler system in the event of a fire.
Fire pumps are equipped with a controller which starts and stops their drivers. The controllers are designed for both manual and automatic operation. They are usually regulated by the pressure in the fire protection and water distribution system and are arranged so that a drop in pressure, caused by the flow of water through the fire sprinkler system, will cause the fire pump to start.
These pumps can be found in institutional, commercial, industrial and high-rise buildings with fire sprinkler systems.
