Textiles are manufactured in a variety of widths and are constructed of natural, synthetic or a blend of natural and synthetic fibers. Fiber construction varies from basic wovens to intricate jacquards. Textile wall coverings are typically laminated to an acrylic or paper backing to enhance stability and to prevent the adhesive from coming through to the surface. Applying textile wall coverings adds an elegant finish to any wall surface, however cleaning and maintenance may require special care.

Tips on Estimating Textile Wall Covering Costs from RSMeans

A single roll of wallpaper will cover approximately 36 S.F. Allow approximately 6 S.F. per roll for waste. This means take the total square foot area to be covered and divide by 30 to determine the number of rolls needed. For vinyls and grass cloth coverings with no patterns to match, allow approximately 10% (3 S.F. per roll) for waste. For patterns requiring matching, allow up to 25% to 30%. Waste can run as high as 50% to 60% for coverings with large, bold, or intricate patterns.
