Zombieland
And yet I firmly believe that we are living among a type of zombie right now. The zombies among us are the general public and political leaders that continue to deny that any environmental change is necessary. I've spent time speaking with CEOs of some of the largest global brands, founders of Greenpeace, scientists on both the right and left who all say that global warming is real. The only point of contention is what's the pace of degradation. Plus, no one in that list above believes we can sustain our growth pace and planet with our current dependency and use of oil. No one. But still we hear "drill, baby drill" and the moronic utterances from politicians like Sen. James Inhofe of Oklahoma claiming we only need more oil on the market or that global warming is left wing conspiracy.
Let me grant the zombies this. "Yes, years ago the environmental movement was dominated by a left-leaning, shrill majority of do-gooders with a huge anti-capitalist world view". And, "yes" some of those people are still around. But holding on to that view is akin to saying the south of today is no different of the south of the 1950s. It's zombie thinking. It's the thinking of those who are the walking dead.
But let me inform the naysayers of this. You are now the braying, out of touch, brain dead. Environmentalism isn't the radical left. Unless you now include the radical left to mean members of fundamentalist christian groups, Rupert Murdoch, and the US Chiefs of Staff. Environmentalism is the new job creation engine. It's the way to keep our air and water clean, it's how we'll survive as a race.
So denizens of Zombieland, wake up!

Martin, you had me at dystopian. To draw parallels between two weighty issues in a manner that both makes sense and entertains is accomplishment enough. I couldn’t agree more, environmentalism and liberalism are no longer married, they are being bad, sleeping with others, and, thankfully, whispering in their ears. I recall the days of “littering,” when throwing a gum wrapper in the street was akin to blinking. Today, this is an inconceivable option. Let’s hope the same habits continue to develop with environmentalism, the loveliest of all the town bicycles.
Now I challenge you to find a good home for another …
