Searching For Materials Or Spec Search

Learn how to get the most from Reed Construction Data products & services

Do Not Run These 2 Searches Together!

Materials or Spec search on Reed Connect

If you try to run one Search using both of these Search Fields you will not get any results because the system is searching two different areas. You need to run these Searches separately depending upon the results you want to retrieve.

So, select from Materials if you are looking for CSI Division information that will appear on the Project Detail (Green Arrow).

Or, if you want to search the Specification, use the Spec CSI field or the Spec Search field (Turquoise Arrows).

When you want to run a Search looking for Materials (CSI Divisions), the Reed Connect system is searching the Project Detail. Within the Project Detail, a Materials Search is looking for the CSI Division that may be included in the Details or the Scope of the Project.

Materials or Spec search on Reed Connect

Note that, as the Project moves along in its lifespan we will obtain more specific information. So if you run a Materials Search as the project moves into Bidding and Post Bid, you are more likely to get results from the Project Detail because we have this information that is made available from our Sources and the Specification.

When you want to use a Keyword in Spec Search or put the CSI Division code in the Spec CSI field, the Reed Connect system is searching the SPECIFICATION. It does NOT search the Project Detail. Searching using these fields will provide Project results on which we have the Plans & Specifications associated with the Project.

Also note that you will want to always use the Spec Search field when you are searching for a Keyword that may be the name of a Product or a Company that may be specified — this information does NOT show up in the Project Detail. The Project Detail information under Details or Scope will be generic and not show specific Product or Company Keywords.

Remember that it is our goal to obtain the Plans & Specs as soon as possible prior to the Bid Date, and then, once Bid, the Plans & Specs remain up on Connect for 45 days past Bid Date. The information in the Project Detail will remain with the project throughout the lifespan of the Project and beyond.
