Searching the Specification
You can access the Specification by using the CSI Code Search field or by using your Keyword in the Spec Search field; your Keyword can be a Product Name, a Company Name or a generic word. For this example we will use CSI Code 09200 and in the second search we will use the Keyword gypsum.
Do NOT attempt to run both of these Searches together; the resulting List View is not the same for these two Searches. When you run a CSI Code Search your resulting List View requires that you click into the Project Detail to access the Plans and Specifications button.
Now click on a Project to get to the Project Detail.
Now we will look at a Keyword search in the Spec Search field. Please see below.
When you run a Spec Search with Keywords, your List View results will include an extra column on the right called Plan/Spec (see Red circled area below).
Note that when you run a Keyword search in the Spec Search field you do not have to change the field With Plans/Specs to Yes; this will automatically happen when you click on Search having put in your Keyword.
Having used the Keyword gypsum, our List View results will include the Plans/Specs column with numbers in it that represent the number of Spec documents in which your Keyword appears.
Click on the number in this column. For example, click on the 4 in the Brooks Elementary School row.
This will open the following page with the 4 documents within which the word gypsum will appear.
Click on one of the Links to the Specification. In this example we will click on 09290 Gypsum Drywall.
Depending on which version of Adobe you have the word gypsum will be highlighted when you open the Specification. If you have Adobe 7.0 the keyword will not be highlighted so you need to click on the Binoculars Search button. This will open the following page where you type in gypsum to find how many times the word appears in the document.
Having obtained your results, click on the gypsum links as needed and it will take you to that highlighted word within the document.
In another example, say you had used two keywords (or more) in your Spec Search on the Connect Search Projects screen — gypsum or board.
Having run your Search and opened the Spec Document you will want to find instances of the word gypsum or board within the Spec. When you are searching the Spec Document you will only want to Search for one word at a time. If you typed “gypsum or board” in the search field of the Spec, it would look for that exact phrase “gypsum or board” and there might not be any references. So search for gypsum, obtain your results then run a New Search and search for board.
Please click on the Spec Search Tips under the Spec Search field to see how to effectively use this field. The use of and, or, not, parenthesis and quotation marks is outlined for you.
